What is Rider Switch?

Rider Switch is a complimentary service. It enables one party member to wait with non-riders. Meanwhile, the rest of the group enjoys an attraction. After the first group rides, the waiting member can board the attraction with another guest. They do not need to wait in the regular standby line. This service is ideal for families with young children. It is also great for guests with sensory sensitivities. It’s suitable for anyone who isn’t tall enough or ready for certain rides.

How to Use Rider Switch

Using Rider Switch is straightforward:

  1. Approach a Cast Member: When you arrive at the attraction, approach a Cast Member at the entrance. Let them know you’d like to use Rider Switch.
  2. Get Rider Switch Entitlement: The Cast Member will issue a Rider Switch entitlement for the waiting party members. At least one adult and any non-riders in your group must be there.
  3. First Group Rides: The first group enters the attraction and enjoys the ride.
  4. Switch and Ride: After the first group finishes, the waiting party can enter the attraction via the Lightning Lane entrance. This allows them to board with minimal wait.

Tips for Using Rider Switch

  • Combine with Lightning Lane Pass: If the first group has a Lightning Lane reservation, they can use it. The second group will still get to use Rider Switch without needing their own separate reservation.
  • Plan Ahead: Rider Switch is available only on select attractions, usually thrill rides or ones with height requirements. Check the list before you go so you can plan your day.
  • Be Ready: You must all be there when setting up Rider Switch. Do not split up before reaching the entrance Cast Member.

Most of Walt Disney World’s major attractions offer Rider Switch. Some examples include:
