Piston Peak National Park Expansion Coming to Magic Kingdom

Big news for Disney fans – Piston Peak National Park is officially coming to Magic Kingdom! The design draws inspiration from the Planes: Fire & Rescue film and the Cars universe. This new themed land will be part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history. Piston Peak has towering peaks, roaring rivers, and rustic wilderness. It will feel like a natural extension of Frontierland. This park is designed to completely immerse guests in the magic of America’s great outdoors.

What is Piston Peak National Park?

This new area of Magic Kingdom draws its inspiration from the Rocky Mountains, U.S. National Parks, and the Disney and Pixar Cars universe. Guests will explore a beautifully themed wilderness setting featuring:

  • A classic visitor lodge
  • Ranger HQ
  • Forest trails
  • Snowcapped peaks
  • Soaring geysers

The buildings in Piston Peak will be designed using “Parkitecture”, a real-world architectural style developed by the U.S. National Park Service. This style blends buildings with their natural surroundings, so everything feels cohesive and authentic within the land.

How It Connects to Frontierland

Since opening day, Magic Kingdom has told a continuous story across its lands. The story ranges from the colonial charm of Liberty Square to the rugged cliffs of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Piston Peak National Park extends this journey with a new chapter inspired by America’s frontier and wilderness heritage.

Imagineers are creating natural transitions with forested buffers, waterways, and mountains. These elements will blend Piston Peak seamlessly into Frontierland and Liberty Square. It’s all part of Disney’s commitment to immersive storytelling.

Closures and Construction Timeline

To begin this massive project, Disney will temporarily close several attractions:

  • Rivers of America
  • Tom Sawyer Island
  • Liberty Square Riverboat

These closures begin July 7, 2025.

But that’s just the beginning. Magic Kingdom is also:

  • Bringing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad back with refreshed magic next year
  • Launching Disney Starlight on July 20
  • Opening a brand-new pirate-themed experience, The Beak and Barrel, later this summer
  • Creating the first-ever Disney Villains-themed land, featuring two major attractions, dining, and shopping

Why This Expansion Matters

This is more than just new rides. It is a major step forward for Magic Kingdom’s evolution. It honors the spirit of adventure, nature, and classic American storytelling. Piston Peak National Park promises thrilling new experiences. It caters to guests of all ages, especially families who love nature. They will enjoy storytelling and the magic of Pixar.

Whether you’re a long-time Frontierland fan, this new land will be a must-visit. If you’re excited to meet some off-road racers in the wild, this new land will be a must-visit. It opens soon.
